Currently shit stands like this:

ALLIES

<del>Away are our only real nuggets who we're down with regularly. (Read: We're friends with pretty much all of Away's major people)</del>

Some members of Away are friendly to us, but others are not. It would be hassle to list everyone who's not hostile. For now DO NOT initiate combat with a member who has not attacked you, is visibly attacking another member of this guild or has been reasonably and believably reported to have attacked a member of this guild.
When we know more about what's going on then I'll update this to reflect our position.

Some members of Away may leave to join us since not everyone is happy with the direction their guild is going now.

Be careful around all members who COULD (not will) potentially harm you but again, ABSOLUTELY DO NOT ATTACK FIRST.

ENEMIES

OKLM because they're bellends.
Guardians - but you should urge them to reconsider their choice to go to war and suggest, perhaps, they could make peace with The Vision. Maybe suggest if that's something they'd like then they should talk to Etheron. That said you should absolutely burn them to the ground, rob and pillage them and generally urinate on their buisiness until they decide they really wish this wasn't the decision they made.

PKing & Shit

You're pretty much allowed to pillage and plunder "For The Vision" as you see fit, but it's preferred that you keep it low key. If it's not Low Key (See: Zepop Vs. Guardians) then it needs to be understood that you represent a subsect of The Devout, not the entire guild. You will not be backed up in helping to steal from them, you will not bitch or whine when they retaliate. It's your choice to do this crazy shit and you're allowed so long as you take the heat for it.
That said - if a guild retaliates against The Devout as a whole for the actions of it's outlying crazies then the entire guild is expected to respond to that by making it clear that the original theft is the work of individuals or a small group of members, and interefering with The Vision is not tolerated. We will put down anyone or anything that tries to make war with The Vision and our guild over individual acts of evangelism. This kind of shit is basically how we ended up against OKLM. But it's fun so we're sticking with it.

I don't give a shit if you murder guildless people. They're guildless. They have absolutely no political sway and you can pretty much "blahblah the vision blahblah you dont understand our beliefs blahblah" your way through anything. If it gets heated we/you can deal with that and put it right or whatever.
Generally though guildless people are free game and I don't give a flying fuck what you do as long as you're not a shit human being outside of the game.

You're free to fuck up Crimeless Bears. Especially because it confuses everyone about whether we're pro-faction or a bunch of thieving PK scum.
We like people being confused about what kind of guild we are and what we stand for.

More recently it's become ok to fuck everyone up, but it would be nice to try and lure people into legitimate alliances with us on the suggestion that they too benefit from our great ordeal to turn The Vision into reality. Surely not everyone could be so unreasonable that they would completely disregard our obviously righteous cause when it's so blatantly the right course of action... right?
Suggestions for individuals, guilds and so on that you feel lack the political position or power to do anything about being farmed for packs or whatever can be posted in the comments and discussed.

With regards to Guardians: Again, you can go there... but it's on you and if too many people go there it gets sketchy. We are not a PK guild, we're a guild with PK members. Remember that.

The ArcheAge Guide To PvP

In this guide I'm hoping to provide players with a single location to find helpful hints, tips and tricks to Player Versus Player combat in ArcheAge.
I'll be attempting to use common language to make it easier to understand for people who's first language is not English, but I can't promise that I will do a great job of that.
The Guide will assume that you are new to ArcheAge, have progressed to at least level 50 and working towards level 55 or have already reached level 55.
The Guide will also assume you are new to playing any kind of game competitively.
It will follow in a step by step guide that I hope will not take away from a players own decisionmaking process, but will make that process easier to handle, allowing you to enjoy the game as much as possible.

Throughout the guide, regardless of how into competitive play you are, remember that ArcheAge is a game and the point of games is to have fun. Sometimes you wont always make the most enjoyable decision if you want to win (unless like me, your enjoyment comes from trying to figure out how to win), so sometimes you will have to do the "boring and sensible" thing instead of the maybe fun and reckless thing if you want to progress in the game.
Do not make your decisions to satisfy another persons standards if you're not sure you agree with them. Don't let people tell you that you're bad because you chose to play something no one else plays. Do not be afraid to do your best, enjoy yourself and try make the seemingly impossible happen.

Step 1 - Choosing Your "Main Class" & "Metagaming"

ArcheAge is a game with a long-term committment that will challenge you to make decisions both inside and outside of combat that will ultimately affect your chances of winning or losing when engaged in PvP and to a lesser extent PvE. These decisions come in a veriety of forms; from choosing your class, your skills, your equipment and even your keybinds.

Before you start investing hours into these things you're going to want to try different things first-hand, or ask friends and long term players for advice to help you make a decision.
If you have played other games (MMO or otherwise) you most likely have a preferred way of "problem solving" in games that revolve around combat and it's probably best to choose something similar to what you have enjoyed in the past or are used to doing. If you find it's not the same in ArcheAge or you come across something you prefer you can always change direction!

The Guides contribution to helping you make this decision will also be a lesson in "Metagaming".
What is "Metagaming"?
Well... you're doing it right now!

Wikipedia describes the term as follows:

Quote:"Metagaming is any strategy, action or method used in a game which transcends a prescribed ruleset, uses external factors to affect the game, or goes beyond the supposed limits or environment set by the game. Another definition refers to the game universe outside of the game itself.

In simple terms, it is the use of out-of-game information or resources to affect one's in-game decisions."

Made more simple, this means you are using information to help you make better decisions in the game, ultimately with the goal of winning.

A simple example of Metagaming taken from Urban Dictionary:

Quote:John was accused of metagaming when he immediately moved his player to the most protected area of the map to snipe the enemy team members, since he had played the map before and knew from experience.

To some extent this may sound like cheating to some of you, and some metagaming is! (For Example: If you make a bet on the outcome of something that requires a player to work out a puzzle, but you already know what the answer and whati t leads to because you've done it before. This is using metagaming to cheat and play dishonestly. This guide will not advcoate this behaviour because it is poor sportsmanship, it's abusive and frankly unacceptable.)

In ArcheAge metagaming is more about knowing what people already play, what people already consider to be the "best classes" or the "best equipment" or what skills they usually choose for a class - knowing what others choose to do helps you choose counter-strategies. This is important not only because it allows you to take advantage of your opponents weak points but also because it makes you aware of what your weak points are, which allows you to play in a way that makes them harder for other players to make use of.

At more advanced levels this will help you predict how another player will play. Where they will move, what skill they will use, when they will use it - before they do it.
If you've ever been the victim of someone always "getting lucky", you might consider the possiblity that it is not they who are lucky but you who is predictable. How can you change that?

The Metagame in ArcheAge right now (Or at least the Sirothe server) consists of only a small portion of all available classes. I will list the majority of commonly played classes here which you can find using http://archeagedatabase.net/us/calc/ on the "Possible Classes" list. If you know what exists it might help you choose what you want to play.

The "top tier" (read: Most played) classes consist of:

Darkrunner, Abolisher, Blighter, Paladin, Cabalist, Defiler, Spellsinger, Daggerspell, Arcanist, Stone Arrow, Primeval, Templar, Caretaker, Cleric.

Lesser Played but still common (and very good):

Shadowblade, Executioner, Outrider, Blade Dancer, Argent, Inquisitor, Skullknight, Reverant, Swiftstone, Enigmatist, Demonologist, Gypsy, Bastion, Lamentor, Soothsayer

Fringe Classes you will probably encounter: (Note on fringe classes: Some players have dedecated a lot of time to playing things currently considered fringe. Some of these have been figured out to such a point that they should be top tier or lesser played but... just aren't. Some of them need more love or someone to spend more time gearing them to unlock their potential. Fringe classes are often the most expensive to gear because they are split between different kinds of damage or effects which makes them slightly more complicated to play, it is also possible that they require very specific additional equipment to support them.)

Poxbane, Hierophant, Hordebreaker, Bloodreaver, Reaper, Eidolon, Trickster, Athame, Doomlord, Druid, Thaumaturge

Early on it's advised you choose something in the top tier or the lesser played, simply because gear for them is more commonly made and sold by crafters, game dungeons have equipment drops that naturally support them or they're so well known that finding advice on how to play them is easier.
It should be noted that a class being more well known or more easily accessible in no way makes it easier to play at a competitive level in ArcheAge. The floor for some classes is closer to the ceiling, but that doesn't make the people on the roof any less skilled.

Now you know what metagaming is, what classes to expect and a little of what you've probably encountered already on your journey to level 50 and beyond, it's time to choose your own direction. Good luck!

Good luck!

The Devout is a friendly, multi-national guild who's core members speak primarily English. We do a little bit of everything from Farming to PvP and have high ambitions for our position on the server.
Our endgame goals currently consist of controlling a castle and being a foremost authority on the politics of the entire server, be it through benevolent or tyrannical means. Eventually we intend to decide who is "Red" to us and who is "Green", regardless of the colour displayed on screen.
We welcome anyone to join, however the core plans of the guild will never change for any one individual specifically. Internally we are not a cold hard dictatorship but certain elements are central to the guilds identity and will not change.
Currently we do not PK our allied faction members or steal packs from them (with the exception of a select few or when defending ourselves) but this is not a set in stone position the guild takes moving forward and anyone joining needs to consider that there are often repercussions to a guild going "rogue", and that those repercussions may one day affect The Devout and its members.

The guild has a roleplay element that should be respected even by members who choose not to participate in it to an excessive degree.
We are something of an evangelistic cult that puts faith, devotion and resources into the plan of our guild leader; His Eminence, Lord Zirconi.
The divine plan is only completely understood by Zirconi himself, but his immense displays of competence and genius - as well as the success of earlier stages - have not gone unnoticed by those who have shared even a fleeting glimpse of what will come to pass with his continued success.

Zirconi is not a God however, and his ties to the incorporeal are not without their price. His physical body cannot sustain a constant link to the ethereal and the result of this is a sharp duality between his higher state of being and that which remains when that link is severed.
When Zirconi is lucid he is a force to be reckoned with; his logic is absolute, his understanding of things is incomparable. He is humble, benevolent and reflects his position of authority with absolute competence. None should be able to find fault in his instruction and those that would try are simply without the capacity to understand the scope of his vision.
This is the state of Zirconi that leaves behind the directions that his followers implement until such a time that each objective has been completed.

When Zirconi is not lucid however it is left up to his enforcement to carry his word until the ethereal link has been restored.
In this state Zirconi is utterly absurd; he has developed a bizarre preference for cows and sometimes his demands can be as ridiculous as they are childlike.
He is often sarcastic and abrupt when engaged and otherwise typically ignorant of others in favour of his latest nonsensical obsession.
But even in this state Zirconi is not completely without focus; in the strangest of ways his far off sanity is making connections that can be seen to influence his decisions even through the slew of tantrums and bovine escapades. While not his most productive self he is still a being of great intellect, but perhaps lacking in the capacity to convey that intellect to outside sources.

It is generally unknown to his followers why Zirconi is this way but it is not thought that there is any manner of fate or destiny involved in the great design that Zirconi's mind presents, it is simply believed to be a loftier cause with greater priority than any other.
Those who have been compelled by the prowess Zirconi exudes - as his instruction unceasingly pulls innumerable paths into tangent with these ideals - are known as "The Devout".

Below you will find the guild ranks from highest to lowest as well as descriptions of their guild function and the requirements to achieve the rank.
It should be noted that no one in the guild is considered lesser or more outside the guild Roleplay for their rank but certain ranks do have power and rights that others do not.

---

Eminence

This is the guildmaster rank. Only Zirconi holds it and it pretty much speaks for itself.

Enforcer

Officer Rank. The function of an Officer in The Devout is to deal with guild politics, maintain order amongst members, ensure things are running smoothly for members, lead and form raids/parties when possible and to organise events of all shapes and sizes when they are needed to.
The only guild member marked Enforcer who ranks above Enforcer is Etheron.
The requirements to achieve this rank are as follows:

1. Online Frequently.
2. Must be on the guild website serving as a moderator
3. A Firm grasp of the guild roleplay, regardless of their level of participation in it. You should be able to provide details or direct someone to where they might learn the finer details when needed.
4. An understanding of the guilds political position with regards to itself and its position with other guilds.
5. Take responsibility for newly invited members. Especially those you personally invited.
6. Must be friendly and capable of exercising at least some degree of patience. If a problem arises that you personally cannot solve or provide help with you should at least be able to direct someone to where they might find a solution or pass the duty to a more available officer, or one who would be better suited to deal with the problem at hand.
7. Understand when to and not to give an order linked to rank and what the appropriate impunity is for failing to follow an order. (See guild Rules and Code of Conduct)

8. Must have a respectable understanding of ArcheAge. (This is purely by guild standards. You do not need to be an authority on all things ArcheAge or spend hours reading up on anything. It is ideal that you have an interest in the more competitive details of the game so you can give people above-average advice though. ^ ^)
9. Must own a Cow mount. (Can be purchased from Mirage Isle for 5 Gilda Stars.)

Zealot

Zealots are consistently active members who are established within the guild.
The requirements to achieve this rank are as follows:

1. Online Frequently.
2. Must be on the guild website and ideally active in discussions.
3. A Firm grasp of the guild roleplay, regardless of their level of participation in it.
4. Must be willing to inquire about the guilds political position when unsure before making serious decisions with regards to other guilds. (Ideally you should always be up to date on the guilds political position.)
5. Be available to help thriving new members to become established. You don't have to go overboard but a willingness to help is strongly encouraged. You should be aiming to make everyone ranked below you a Zealot as best you can!
6. Must have a respectable understanding of ArcheAge. (As stated above in the officer rank, this is still by guild standards.)
7. Must own a Cow mount. (Can be purchased from Mirage Isle for 5 Gilda Stars.)

This rank is for players who are still fairly new to the game who have a strong intention of continuing to play. It is a trial placement for people who have shown an interest in what the guild has to offer and may find The Devout to be something that would enhance their gameplay experience.
Requirements for this rank are as follows:

1. Must be Level 50 or higher and have at least the final set of quest gear or better.
2. A basic understanding of the guild's roleplay regardless of their level of participation.
3. A strong interest in the guilds plans and goals and a willingness to further those goals as those goals further them.
4. Must be at least somewhat active.
5. Must be registered to the guild forum and ideally active in discussions.

Neophyte

Someone who is new to the game who might enjoy the experience, help and security of a guild.
A Neophyte does not have to stick with the guild as they progress through the game but is expected to show appreciation for any help they may receive from guild members.
Higher ranked members are encouraged to be helpful and informative to Neophytes so that they may be more inclined to remain with The Devout as they become more involved in ArcheAge.
If you meet any of the following requirements you will be considered a Neophyte:

1. Below Level 50 or lack at bare minimum Karkasse Ridgelands quest gear
