I made that char on Alustin, the server which DICK had their chars on, mainly cause i had the most Loyality left there 
As I don´t want to spoiler myself i´m a little confused about the story: On one side you have your black spirit which guides you to certain key locations once you have the appropriate level for it (and making that thing stronger/more useful it seems), while on the other side you meet some "actual" heroes/key figures which have cinematic scenes tied to them.
So far it doesn´t seem that the story is an important thing in game (like in ArchAge neither :/ ) yet the sidequest story´s may only be "on-liners" but their quantitiy is overhelming :O
